Nash, Treadway (ed.). Collections for the History of Worcestershire. Two volumes. [London]: John Nichols, 1781-2 [& 1799]. First edition. Folio (16 11/16” x 10 3/8”, 424mm x 260mm). Bound in contemporary full tan calf (with excellent repairs to hinges), with gilt dentelles on edges of covers. On the spine, six raised gilt-stamped bands. Panels treble-and quadruple-gilt ruled with gilt floral ornaments. Title-piece red in second panel, number piece black in third panel. Edges of text-block stained yellow. Both volumes are in a beautiful state, especially given how county histories tend to be badly mistreated. The text is fresh and bright, the plates strong. This truly monumental collection of materials for a history of the county of Worcestershire was assembled by Rev. Treadway Nash over nearly five decades, apparently entirely unassisted.
